How to Care for a Siamese Cat

Siamese cats are a cat breed that is related to the Balinese cat. They look almost look like this related breed, but some things are a little different. When caring for any kind of cat, you need to prepare before you buy your cat. This includes keeping a budget for the cat, buying the supplies for caring for a cat, and knowing how to care for a cat.

1. Decide if a Siamese cat is right for you. This is another important part of preparing to get a Siamese cat. These cats are a more different breed of cat unlike other breeds, as they have a few differences. This cat wasn't born in the wild, but it is still different.

2. Create a budget. Cats are expensive, so you need enough money to buy a cat. You also need lots of profit to buy the supplies.

3. Buy the supplies needed for caring for a Siamese cat. These supplies are listed here:
- Food/water bowls
- Safe
- Scratching post
- Litter
- Litter box
- Cat bed

4. Siamese cats need a diet high in protein. Just because chicken has protein, doesn't mean you have to feed it that. It can still eat regular cat food. Just make sure it is healthy. It should have enough protein since Siamese cats need lots of it.
- Make sure the food you get for your Siamese cat is high in protein and has no artificial flavors, artificial colors, dyes, onions, garlic, grapes, or chocolate. Any of these foods are dangerous to any breed of cat. Take your cat to the vet immediately if it eats one of these foods.

- Provide fresh, clean water for your cat. Every cat needs water, but they dehydrate easily, so always keep a bowl of water out for them.

- Give your Siamese food and water in food and water bowls.

5. Wash the food and water bowls. Washing the bowls keeps the bowls clean, so when a fly lands on it, or dust forms on it, it won't be dirty. Wash the bowls a lot because: flies can land anywhere and dust is everywhere.

6. Play with your Siamese cat. Siamese cat's need lots of play time, so be sure to play with them for at least thirty minutes to one hour. Cats can play with many different toys, but don't let them play with any toys that are/have:
- String
- Yarn
- Ribbon
- Loose pieces on toy
- Sharp toys
- Small toys
- Siamese cats may swallow these toys and they will choke on it. This may cause death.
- Do not let your Siamese play with these when exercising too.

7. Consider a scratching post for your Siamese. Any cat has sharp claws, and they may scratch the furniture. The scratching post should be at least two or three feet tall so the cat can stretch up. Stretching is good for your Siamese cat, as it lets it relax and not let its back get rounded.
- You can also consider declawing your Siamese cat or having your vet put on nail caps for them.

8. Exercise your Siamese. Toys such as balls, etc, are great for exercising your Siamese, but as said before, do not let your Siamese play with the harmful toys listed above.

9. Litter train your Siamese cat if it isn't trained. Accidents can happen if you don't litter train it.

10. Clean the litter box. If it is not cleaned, you or your Siamese cat could get a disease. This is especially the most important part in caring for any breed of cat.
- To clean a litter box, scoop up the feces and wet litter. Throw out the dirty litter. Then wash the litter box and rinse off the soap. Let the litter box dry. Once it's dry, add new, fresh litter in the box.

- Make sure you choose the right kitty litter. Good kitty litter is fresh and is non-clumping. Clumping litter may cause your Siamese to not use the litter box anymore.

11. Take your Siamese cat to the vet once a year to get a check up and vaccinations. You should also take it to the vet if it's ill or injured.
- Make sure the vet you have is a good vet. Some vets don't care very well for cats.
